Pierre Koenig

A leading figure in the Modern Movement in America, Pierre Koenig (1925–2004) built his first steel house in 1950. In 1957 Arts and Architecture Magazine designated two of his projects as Case Study Houses #21 and #22. Among the most innovative buildings on the West Coast, they embody the excitement and optimism of the period. This monograph provides the first complete record of Koenig’s long career.

‘This book is as much about the rediscovery of a lost era as about the unearthing of a “forgotten” architect. Those unfamiliar with the story of the Case Study Houses will find it useful in setting Koenig’s work in context. Those interested in a more detailed analysis of the architect’s early work are rewarded by commentaries on all the main projects.’

‘A book on Pierre Koenig is long overdue and we should be grateful to James Steele, David Jenkins and their publisher for this beautifully produced volume.’
